Column #426        October 27, 2023Complacency

From Merriam Webster is this:
“1: self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies
When it comes to safety, complacency can be dangerous.
"2: an instance of usually unaware or uninformed self-satisfaction”1

So, you tell me that you’re well aware of the dangers—therefore there’s no way you’re complacent. But is that true? The comment that “when it comes to safety, complacency can be dangerous” indicates that you can be aware of a threat but still be in danger. That’s because if you are not focused on the appropriate danger at the proper moment in time—you’re complacent.

In this day and age most people are aware of at least some of the dangers they face beyond those they face day-to-day. We all have our own little personal lists of risky events. Then we have our family’s risks. Then we have the issues our communities are dealing with. Of course there are problems that cities, counties, and states deal with that present additional levels of risk.

Nationally, many of the big problems are well advertised even though they seem more distant. They include: national debt, border, restricted freedoms, Ukraine-Russia, Iran-Israel-Hamas, crime, addictions, debauchery, wokeism, schools, military, legal system, censorship, deep state, foreign policy, energy policy, taxes, inflation, economy, weaponized legal system, police state, lying, medical deception, child mutilation, and more.

Yes, threats ranging from the personal to the national make a very long list and I’m sure some of the readers of this column know them all by heart. Yet these heads-up folks can still be complacent. That’s because they may not be properly focused on the proper risk at the moment they need to be taking action to prevent a gotcha.

It’s like crossing the street. We know that if we step out in front of a passing vehicle we probably won’t survive the encounter. The proper action when crossing the street is to look both ways and make sure no vehicles are coming. Yet if our minds are elsewhere, we may by habit look both ways, but not actually recognize an approaching vehicle. Therefore, we absentmindedly step out in front of its path. That’s complacency!2

Too often our entire society is controlled by a very small minority whose actions are amplified by the press. The press gets higher ratings when its “news” is shocking or weird rather than the same ol’ same ol’ stuff. Unfortunately a focus on the news cycle misses the big picture, especially when people get caught up in it. For instance, rioters created a guilty verdict in the George Foreman case even though the coroner knew flat out that Foreman died of natural causes—fentanyl overdose with heart issues. He was not strangled or injured by the arresting officer. But the consequences of a few rioters burning and looting was that the police officer was found guilty of murder and many communities across America slashed their police budgets!3

Liberal nutcases and college student rioters are distorting the Israeli-Palestinian-Hamas conflict by not only their lack of historical context, but they are ignoring the fact that it was Hamas thugs who brutally attacked, killed, maimed, and kidnaped Israelis civilian at a festival and in their homes. Even though these rioters know little about the history of the region and they represent a minority in the USA, they have actually influenced our county’s foreign policy and inspired other Jewish hating people around the world! Consequently rational dialog is nearly impossible.

The representatives we send to Washington, D.C. are voting for more debt, yet the majority of citizens are telling them to reduce the debt and bring back stability in the dollar’s purchasing power. The known risk is that a pile of debt (like a stack of blocks) can topple because of its own inherent instability. When that happens there’s a credit implosion, stock and housing market collapse, corporate and personal bankruptcies, and bank closures. By the way, during the initial phases of a credit implosion the dollar will be king. That’s because the assets being sold are priced in dollars in order to get dollars to pay down dollar-denominated debts. Assets are being used to “buy” dollars.

We all know that financial risks are sky-high these days. But are we complacent about the financial risks? Have we taken proper precautions so that we might even profit from the irrational actions of others? If we don’t take appropriate action and focus on risk avoidance, we are being complacent. So, here is a case where the dire predictions issued by some analysts are being ignored because today’s events don’t indicate that tomorrow they’ll be worse. Some people actually understand the financial risks, but are afraid to change their investments because they may pass up future gains. This is being complacent.

As Americans we are facing political risks that are destructive to the American way of life. Most Americans are not in favor of the socialist promise of utopia. Yet the majority hesitate to speak out, to demonstrate, and to demand that their representatives vote to protect the freedoms that made America great.4

Becoming an activist is not natural for the majority of Americans. But if you are not taking every opportunity to educate yourself and others of the big risks we face these days, the mob will hold sway and the elitists behind The Great Reset will prevail. Many voters tend to just go with the flow of what they perceive as the majority. That’s why it’s important to let everyone know where you stand. If all of the rational people let their voices be heard, they can prevent a lot of complacent people from joining the ignorant mob and creating a majority that votes away our freedoms.5
